The Casio G-Shock: Decades of Rough Duty

When did you last get a watch that was just a watch? If you have those assortments (obviously) and you’re willing to spend money, you can literally pay tens of thousands of dollars for a watch with hands, face and band … well, it’s not ‘Even tells time-you have to watch it (old joke but true). Why are all these watches so expensive? The answer includes a combination of marketing, well-known brands, brand awareness, and craftsman quality. So, if you spend thousands of dollars on a watch, are you willing to abuse it? Wear it in a clean and dirty place? Wet? Do you slam into the door frame or drive out (potentially) bad guys? What modern warriors need today is a reliable watch that not only provides time, but also other information that might be useful in unfriendly situations. Enter the Casio G Shock Master of the GG-1000-1A3.

In today’s market, there are several “standards” from which watches can be created to show their robustness and durability. There are criteria to measure:
Water resistance-usually indicates at what depth the watch seal breaks.
Impact resistance-often measured as a drop from a certain height, or as a foot-pound of pressure the watch case receives before something fails.

Scratch resistance – often stated in loose terms about what the crystal should withstand.
Another very common item that appears in clock descriptions is “accuracy to within X seconds per X time frame”, or “accuracy to within 1/10 second every 7 days”.

These are just a few specifications, are listed very often and seem to be competitive. There are also a number of other watch characteristics that are almost all purely subjective, such as style, size, band type, and color. Recently, it seems that brighter shades are better than blacks. (It seems to have changed when the uniform service was changed from a forest camouflage uniform to a desert color mix)
In today’s world, watches, whether flashlights or smartphones, are becoming increasingly versatile, not only to show connectivity to other devices, but also to enhance the convenience of the wearer. However, watches are no longer primarily watches, but remote control hubs for many other things that can be inconvenient for the wearer. In addition, there seems to be a direct correlation between how much time a watch displays (other than displaying time) and how robust (or not) a watch is. The more it is, the less robust it is.

Think a bit about what your watch really needs and how rugged the package will be for those needs. The watch tells you first and foremost that you need to display the time so that it can be displayed easily and easily. Digital watches can do this, but chronographs (watches with hands that point to hours and minutes) are usually more easily seen, depending on the lighting conditions and the lighting features built into the watch.

For those working in harsh environments, the two most commonly needed information is temperature and direction of travel. Some watches do more than display temperatures related to weather conditions, but local temperatures are usually the most necessary information to survive. Humidity and wind speed may be good to know, but neither is obviously as important as temperature. It is important to present it in a simplicity of information delivery and a basic no-frills way.
For decades, G-SHOCK is a name that has been esteemed for its rugged durability and reliability under adverse conditions. One of the new additions to the G-SHOCK line, the Master Of G GG-1000-1A3, provides all the properties and information expected from this respected line. The construction of the  casio GG-1000-1A3 is carefully designed to provide redundant protection for the case seal and promote long-term functioning of the button despite the acceptable environment for debris and watches.
The GG-1000-1A3 line has four different color combinations to easily display time, date, day of the week, compass direction, and temperature. Bright hands and markers also have LED backlights to improve visibility. The GG-1000-1A3 series continues to build a reputation for reliability and robustness that has made the G-SHOCK line very famous.
